What is a Segway?

The Segway is the first of its kind - a self-balancing, electrically powered, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. Easy to use and operate, the two-wheeled Segway sports high-tech gyroscopes and tilt sensors that monitor your balance 100 times a second and automatically respond to your body's movements. To move forward, the rider simply leans forward. To stop or move backwards, the rider leans back slightly. The rider glides smoothly as the Segway senses where you want to go. You will use Lean Steer X2 Segways on this tour.

What does riding a Segway feel like?

Riding the Segway feels like nothing you've ever experienced, because there's never been anything like it. Step on and your instinct will be to steady yourself, as you would on anything with two wheels. But almost immediately you'll realize that the Segway PT is balancing for you, almost like it has become an extension of you. Just lean forward a little and you'll see that the Segway PT isn't moving you on its own, it's moving in response to you and what you tell it to do. It all feels natural, safe, and instinctive. That's what riding a Segway PT feels like.

Do I have to make reservations in advanced?

It is best to reserve a date and time in advance to assure availability and you may purchase your reservations on line or payment will be accepted at time of tour. We accept Visa / Mastercard / Discover / and cash.

What if I just "walk in"? Can I go out on a tour that day?

In most cases, there may be a space available for one or two extra riders but we cannot guarantee this.

How many friends can I bring with me to ride on a tour?

We require a minimum of 4 people per tour and can allow up to 7 per tour.

Who can ride a Segway PT (personal transporter)?

The Segway PT is easy to learn and safe to ride after orientation, safety tips and practice (included with tour). Although no special skills are required Segways are not an ideal mode of touring for people with some mobility issues. All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without any assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without assistance or use of a handrail.
A rider must weigh between 100 lbs and 260 lbs. All Segway riders must be at least 14 years of age to participate in the tour. Riders 14 years to 18 years must have a parent sign a waiver and participate in the tour with them and must be accompanied by an adult.

What About the Weather?

In the event of rain or snow we will continue to run our tours (as Alaskans we don’t let this stop us)!  Although for those of you who prefer we will be happy to re-schedule your tour for another date/time (sorry no refunds). Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

What if I have special needs?

If you require any medication or nutritional items because of health issues during the two hour tour period, we encourage you to bring them along to store in the Segway pouch until needed. We also encourage you to inform your tour guide of any special needs you may have.

Are there planned stops along the tour route?

Yes, there are several planned stops for both sight seeing and restrooms. We provide each rider with their own bottled water in the Segway pouch.
